We are required to screen all potential Big Sisters. The application process is designed to prepare our Big Sisters for their new role as a mentor, and to ensure the safety of our Little Sisters. Mentoring is not for everyone and this process allows you to decide if mentoring is right for you.
Big Sisters are women 18 years of age or older. They must have a car, insurance, good driving record, undergo a criminal background check and commit a minimum of two outings per month for a minimum one-year commitment. You can get started by watching our orientation video.
We currently have Little Sisters waiting for a match in the following areas: Eastlake, Spring Valley, Chula Vista, Mira Mesa, Rancho Bernardo, and Oceanside. Ideally we match you with a Little Sister that lives no more than 20 minutes away from you.
How to become a “Big Sister for the Day”:
For women interested in the Big Sister experience but who are unavailable for the one year Big Sister commitment this is a great way to get involved! Volunteers will be able to choose the events they would like to attend and the Little Sister they would like to be matched with for the event. To get started with this volunteer opportunity you will need to:
- Contact our Program Manager to schedule a 15 minute introductory phone call or meeting.
- Provide one letter of reference from a professional contact
- Complete a LiveScan background check
- Provide your driving record
- Provide proof of current auto insurance
Still have questions about the application process?
Email the Program Manager at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message at 619-297-1135. We will get back to you shortly.
