We are required to screen all potential Big Sisters. The application process is designed to prepare our Big Sisters for their new role as a mentor, and to ensure the safety of our Little Sisters. Mentoring is not for everyone and this process allows you to decide if mentoring is right for you.
Big Sisters are women 21 years of age or older. They must have a car, insurance, good driving record, undergo a criminal background check and commit a minimum of two outings per month for a minimum one-year commitment. You can get started by watching our orientation videos (ORIENTATION VIDEO #1: The Girls Rising Program Model; ORIENTATION VIDEO #2: Program Requirements, Application Process, and Match Process).
Please note that Big Sister trainings and new matches are currently on hold due to social distancing requirements. The next available Big Sister training will be announced as soon as we are able.
We currently have Little Sisters waiting for a match in the following areas: Normal Heights, Eastlake, Spring Valley, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, Clairemont, National City, Mira Mesa, Carmel Valley, Logan Heights, Chula Vista, Bonita, Oceanside, and Escondido. Ideally we match you with a Little Sister that lives no more than 20 minutes away from you.
