Become a Mentor!

Welcome to the Girls Rising Mentor FAQ page! We’re excited that you’re considering becoming a mentor. Our program is designed to support and empower girls aged 8-17 in San Diego County by connecting them with positive, dedicated mentors. Here, you'll find answers to common questions about becoming a mentor and the impact you can make.

Eligibility Requirements

To become a mentor with Girls Rising, you must meet the following requirements:

Age: You must be at least 21 years old and live in San Diego County. 


Background Check: All mentors are required to pass a background check. Applicants must also have a valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable form of transportation. 


Commitment: You should be able to commit to a minimum of 1 year of mentorship, with regular, scheduled meetings.

 

Availability: Mentors should be available for in-person outings and activities at least once a month, depending on the needs of your Mentee.


Experience: While prior experience with mentoring or working with youth is helpful, it is not required. A passion for supporting young girls is key!

Apply

Begin by filling out our Mentor Application Form. This form helps us understand your background, interests, and availability. We’ll also need you to provide 3 references, submit driving documents, and complete a background check.

Connect

Once we receive your application and your required documents have been submitted, our team will schedule an interview with you. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you better, discuss your motivations, and answer any questions you may have about the program. We’ll also provide you with information about the matching process.

Match

After the interview and background check are completed, we’ll begin the process of matching you with a Mentee. We consider factors like shared interests, location, goals, and personalities to ensure a good fit. Once matched, you’ll receive an introductory email with your Mentee's parent/guardian and can start planning your first meeting.

  • How do I add a new question & answer?
    To add a new FAQ follow these steps: 1. Click “Manage FAQs” button 2. From your site’s dashboard you can add, edit and manage all your questions and answers 3. Each question and answer should be added to a category 4. Save and publish.
  • Can I insert an image, video, or gif in my FAQ?
    Yes. To add media follow these steps: 1. Enter the app’s Settings 2. Click on the “Manage FAQs” button 3. Select the question you would like to add media to 4. When editing your answer click on the camera, video, or GIF icon 5. Add media from your library.
  • How do I edit or remove the “FAQ” title?
    You can edit the title from the Settings tab in the app. If you don’t want to display the title, simply disable the Title under “Info to Display”.
  • What is an FAQ section?
    An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
